A new Course
in Education program for teachers of English, Math, and IT in Kyrgyzstan and
Tajikistan started in August 2014. The course for teachers is supported by AKES
and AKS. This is the outreach program that brings together 44 teachers from
Naryn and Gorno-Badahshan oblasts . The goal of the program is to improve the
knowledge and skills of the English language teachers, Math a, and IT and
accordingly increase the quality of education of their students. The strategies
of the work with the teachers are data collection and analyses of their work
with the following training for the teachers. The pilot groups of teachers were selected in
Naryn from 10 schools, and in Gorno- Badahshan from 10 schools. At the first training with
teachers we discussed such issues as “Teacher of the 21st century”, “Teacher's
philosophy” and opportunities to enhance the teacher's potential of their work
with the students. It was interesting for teachers to discuss new methods of
work in the classroom, strategies to conduct lessons on the base of the
critical thinking and participate in the discussions and presentations themselves
about different pedagogical topics. We considered the way of assessment and
evaluation at the lessons with better understanding about the diagnostic,
formative, and summative assessment. Another interesting topic was about using of
new technology in the classroom with videos, mobile phones, computers, etc. All
the teachers were interested in discussing these issues and actively shared
their teaching experience and plans for their near future according to the
program.
